Finance Manager, Business Financial Analytics

As we continue to advance and innovate, we are seeking a Finance Manager who will oversee a team of finance professionals that provide financial support and direction to the Waste Services Utility as they strive to deliver waste management solutions that are cost effective, environmentally sustainable and customer focused.

By demonstrating “big picture” thinking on how to apply financial rigor to operating decisions, this role will be accountable for business analytics associated primarily with operating and capital budget development, financial performance and variance reporting, utility rate filings, council reports, financial analysis and business case development.

As Finance Manager you will:

  • Provide leadership to the branch manager and their leadership team in the development of financial deliverables that align with financial directives and policies

  • Actively review, challenge, and participate alongside business partners in their evaluation of department goals, outcomes, targets and business strategies. This includes understanding the client’s business, evaluating financial implications and providing guidance on targets while consistently applying corporate policy and strategic direction

  • Lead, manage, influence and collaborate with team resources in the forecasting, long range planning, business strategies and issue resolution for Waste Services

  • Translate theoretical financial policies and concepts into tangible processes, without significantly impacting existing efficiency and effectiveness

  • Analyze financial results against budget to identify variances, trends, year-end projections, and determine historical costs utilized in future financial models/reports

  • Provide financial analytics, advice and assistance in the development of sound defensible business cases for new or revised initiatives

  • Participate in a constructive and collaborative manner with other departments and stakeholders at the City in the planning and analysis of financial activities

  • Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement and innovation and ensure alignment to City goals, objectives, and priorities

  • Build workforce capacity through managing, coaching, mentoring, recognizing accomplishments and motivating employees to deliver results

Qualifications:

  • A post-secondary degree in Business, Commerce, Public Administration or a related field

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) is required

  • Minimum of seven (7) years related experience and progressively responsible financial management experience including knowledge in the area of financial analytics and business planning development

  • Significant knowledge and experience with budgeting, business planning, analysis of financial results, and performance measurement best practices

  • Demonstrated experience within a complex organization, preferably in a utility or regulatory environment

  • Excellent communication (both oral and written), presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Strong leadership, facilitation, collaborative planning and team building capabilities attributing to the achievement of key business goals

Hours of Work: 36.9  hours per week, Monday - Friday

Salary: $116,049 - $145,060 (Annually)
