Opportunity

We are seeking a Manager, Investment Finance – Public Markets. The position is responsible to the Senior Manager, Investment Finance and leads the Public Markets Team (“Team”) within Investment Finance (“Department”). This Team is accountable for the effective provision of investment operations functions to enable the management of ATRF’s pension investment assets, focusing on public market assets.  The position also directly supports the broader responsibilities of the Department as a whole.

The Department is responsible for managing the investment operations of all asset classes including elements of transaction initiation, processing and settlement, asset administration and reporting, and service and relationship management.

Stakeholders

The Manager will develop effective personal relationships, and partner with key individuals in various departments across the organization that are stakeholders in business processes led by the Department or who steward processes where Investment Finance has a stakeholder interest.  In particular, the position will manage the collaboration with the Investment team, Investment Accounting, Corporate Finance, Legal and other teams to ensure that public market investments are appropriately measured and accounted for; reported and disclosed in risk and performance reporting, and ultimately in the ATRF external financial statements.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for managing a team in a manner that allows for the effective operation of the public markets investment portfolios: Fixed Income, Equity, and Absolute Return; while also administering all derivative operations.  The Team’s primary responsibilities include: operations functions to coordinate cash and liquidity requirements, transaction processing and settlement, derivative management, collateral and margin processing, investment onboarding and asset valuation, administration and reporting, and elements of risk management and reporting together with service and relationship management. 

In addition, this position will provide oversight to and ensure the successful delivery of ATRF strategic and tactical change initiatives. The Manager will be responsible for business process design and optimization for the Team, including internal controls and operational risk management.

The Manager will also play a critical role in the establishment of new processes/deliverables and in driving improvement to current procedures by providing strong leadership with clear and consistent direction to the Team and by applying effective change and project management techniques.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate for this role will need a minimum of:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting. A post-graduate education or an industry-relevant professional designation (CFA) is strongly preferred.
  • Over 5 years of applicable work experience within investment finance operations.
  • A minimum of 3 years working with public assets and/or derivative administration.
  • At least 2 years of team leadership experience.
