Financial Accountant - Corporate Reporting

<p><strong>Lead </strong><strong>quarterly and annual financial statements and management discussion and analysis preparation</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&amp;A (including notes and supporting tables).</li> <li>Review financial information within presentations and press releases.</li> <li>Lead the accounting research, including assessment of accounting issues and new accounting standards to ensure compliance with US GAAP and preparation of position papers as required.</li> <li>Maintain XBRL structure and disclosure.</li> <li>Perform monthly and quarterly analysis, preparation and maintenance of equity accounting, including stock-based compensation entries and earnings per share.</li> <li>Support the Process Owner and sub-Process Owners in the review, monitoring and testing of Financial Reporting internal controls.</li> <li>Responsible for complying with the company&rsquo;s internal controls over financial reporting.</li> <li>Assist with identifying process improvements, implementing changes and ensuring best practices.</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong><strong>Participate in year end audits and quarter end reviews and prepare documentation and communication with the auditors</strong></p> <ul> <li>Manage the timely and accurate completion of the quarterly and annual &ldquo;Prepared by Client&rdquo; items pertaining to compliance and reporting to support the external audit and review activities.</li> <li>Work with external auditors to ensure the audit runs smoothly and efficiently.</li> <li>Provide accounting analysis for the preparation of responses to auditor queries.</li> <li>Respond to internal and external audit queries (including SOX).</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong><strong>Participate in the functional area of tax</strong></p> <ul> <li>Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Company&rsquo;s tax strategy to effectively use Revenue Canada permitted tax planning opportunities to minimize the Company&rsquo;s current tax expense and effectively use all the Company&rsquo;s deferred tax assets.</li> <li>Assist in ensuring the Company&rsquo;s compliance with Provincial sales &amp; use tax regulations and remittances, ensuring monitoring and analysis processes are in place and managed to properly assess the correct sales &amp; use tax treatment for all transactions.</li> <li>Participate in the preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provision schedules by preparing, reviewing and consolidating provision schedules.</li> <li>Assist with the preparation of tax returns and filing of annual corporate income tax returns including federal, provincial/state and local tax returns.</li> <li>Participate in tax audits including, direct interaction and support to tax auditors (Income tax, HST/GST, US Sales and Use tax and PST audits).</li> <li>Assist with the activities of third party tax recovery firms and assist with or lead special projects as required.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Other financial or special projects</strong></p> <ul> <li>Responsible for stock-based compensation accounting including researching new transactions, completing grant valuations, and recording amortization.</li> <li>Responsible for monthly financial reporting including the preparation of financial reports and analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis, ensuring they are in accordance with US GAAP.</li> <li>Identify emerging issues and opportunities and communicate with other managers in a timely and effective manner.</li> <li>Participate in the development of operating, cash flow, and capital budgets and forecasts.</li> <li>Ensure that SOX controls are adhered to throughout finance by way of audit testing and review of procedures.</li> <li>Identify and monitor standards, performance and processes to communicate results, advice and options.</li> <li>Review, approve, and post journal entries.</li> <li>Provide coaching and training to various staff members to ensure a good working level.</li> <li>Act as a leader and role model within the finance group and participate in the company&rsquo;s CPA pre-approved program for CPA candidates by being a mentor.</li> <li>Support other special projects and perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as required.</li> <li>Analyze operating results, develop reports and provide recommendations to management.</li> <li>Complete special projects and ad hoc analysis as required.</li> <li>Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Post secondary degree/certificate or equivalent experience relating to finance</li> <li>Designated in Canadian accounting program (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA)</li> <li>Five years of experience relating to financial reporting and analysis</li> <li>Three years of post-designation experience</li> <li>Industrial construction and/or mining experience preferred</li> <li>Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills</li> <li>Proven ability to perform under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to work independently</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to influence peers and superiors</li> <li>Understanding and usability of all functions of the JD Edwards system preferred</li> <li>Intermediate user of Microsoft Excel and Access preferred</li> <li>Solid accounting knowledge</li> <li>Strong attention to detail</li> </ul>
