Cost - Financial Accountant

Dow Chemical Canada has an opening for an Intermediate level Cost/Financial Accountant
in Calgary, Alberta. The accountant is responsible to ensure accounting activities recorded within
the company's records and books are accurate and complete. Adhere to the company's
accounting policies and practices as well as the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
(GAAP). The incumbent will be a part of the Controllers’ organization and will report to Dow
Canada Finance Director, will work closely with the business teams and will provide financial
analysis and counsel on operational and strategic issues.

Core Responsibilities:


- Cost accounting & analysis. Include product costing, estimates, recording, reporting, activity
based costing, standard costing, variance analysis, budgeting, financial analysis highlighting
issues & opportunities to operational & business teams to facilitate decision making
- Prepare supporting calculations and record entries in the accounting system
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, inventories, fixed assets
- Timeliness and accuracy of data processing
- Understand, interpret, formulate and implement intercompany and 3rd party agreements into
accounting system as applicable
- Financial accounting including application of accounting standards (IFRS, US GAAP, ASPE).
Review, research, advise, implement applicable accounting standards. Major areas are fixed
assets, revenues, leases, inventories, consolidation, borrowing costs, employee benefits
(pensions) and few others

Other Expected Knowledge:

- Full Cycle Accounting for small subsidiaries. Preparation of income statements, balance
sheets, cash flow statements, equity statements and notes to financial statements including
summary of significant accounting policies
- Calculate financial parameters / ratios to comply with bank covenants
- Support internal, external, 3rd party and other audits
- Prepare Stat Canada reports
- Prepare financial forecasts, capital budgeting, productivity / benchmarking studies

Required Qualifications:

- A Bachelor's degree with concentration in Accounting
- Professional accounting designation or is expected to complete soon
- Hands-on experience in research, advice and implementation of accounting standards
(IFRS/US GAAP/ASPE) while working for public accounting firm or in manufacturing or
commercial environment
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, for example SAP ECC
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in industry or in public accounting
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company support or sponsorship
