Senior Analyst, Tax

Position Overview:

As a Senior Tax Analyst, you will play a key role in the Canadian tax provision reporting, tax returns preparation and assisting in tax audits. You will expand your knowledge by integrating with the various teams and will have an inside opportunity to learn the business. You will also get an opportunity to work collaboratively to support the accounting team and the operations in tax related projects.

Job Description:

Major Job Functions

  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual Canadian tax provisions and disclosures and tax provision for budgets and forecast for Finning Canadian legal entities and subsidiaries
  • Liaises with external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits of financial statements
  • Preparation of Canadian income tax returns for various legal entities and other tax related returns
  • Assist in Canadian income tax and payroll audits, including assessments, reassessments, audits and appeals
  • Support the Canadian income and indirect tax needs of the organization in various tax matters including advising on payroll and benefits tax issues, accounting changes and special projects
  • Assist in various other duties included tax research as required, risk management, policy implementation and process improvement
  • Assist in preparation of working papers for US tax returns
  • Assist in gathering info for SR&ED claims

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent technical, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, in particular Microsoft excel
  • Ability to work with multiple complex accounting systems
  • Strong Business acumen and judgement
  • Attention to detail

 

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Income Tax, tax cases and CRA policies and working knowledge of Excise Tax Act
  • Sound understanding of financial statements and good working knowledge with IFRS
  • Experience in GST and PST is an asset
  • Familiarity with ERP systems – a definite asset
  • Computer proficiency in MS office applications including advanced knowledge in excel

 

Accountability

  • Accountable for accurate and timely reporting of consolidated income tax provision for the Canadian divisions and subsidiaries
  • Ensure income tax returns and other reports are prepared on time, in accordance with the tax legislations
  • Working with other members in the team and other departments to manage tax risks
  • Support the operations in their tax needs

 

Education & Experience:

  • University business or another relevant degree
  • Professional Accounting Designation
  • Completion of or working towards CICA In- depth Tax Course
  • 5 to 8 year’s financial accounting and tax experience in public practice or large corporation with a minimum of 4 years in tax
