FCL invites applications for the position of Business Analyst in our Co-op Refinery Complex located in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The Business Analyst prepares analyses and recommendations that assist the Co-operative Refinery Complex (CRC) in maximizing operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency. The Business Analyst is a business partner providing assistance with financial matters to operating areas throughout CRC including the review and analysis of current processes, business needs/requirements, system capabilities, data integration, and development and testing. This role will provide ongoing support and collaborative feedback during the development and implementation of new technology and/or processes and act as the key liaison between stakeholders. 

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager – Accounting and Business Analysis, responsibilities for this position include the following: 

  • Assist CRC operating areas in maximizing their financial and operational results. Identify areas for potential improvement, gather data, perform research, prepare analysis, develop unbiased independent recommendations, and present findings in support of proposed changes. 
  • Analyze the feasibility of, and develop requirements for new system(s) enhancements to ensure the system design aligns with user needs. Discuss weaknesses and recommendations to understand the risks and impacts.
  • Assist with the preparation of and review of Request for Expenditure (RFE) and Authority for Expenditure (AFE) forms, determine whether expenditures are capital or expense, and assist with the administration of the CEO-5 Policy. Evaluate CRC's profitability, cash flows, business processes, contracts, expenditures, and market trends.  Communicate information and recommendations from these evaluations to appropriate Refinery Leadership Team members or other CRC/FCL management as appropriate.
  • Prepare forecasts and budgets, using inputs gathered from various sources and through discussions, research, analysis and knowledge of historic and current conditions. 
  • Assist with the development and review of key performance indicators (KPIs) for CRC operating areas. 
  • Participate in business process improvement projects and/or management reviews of the business unit.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor Degree Business/Commerce as well as a professional accounting designation (CPA) and 3-5 years of progressive experience. Experience in a manufacturing environment would be an asset. Knowledge of Excel, PowerPivot, Power BI, Power Query, Power View, VBA and Macros are considered an asset. 

A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
