Description

Canoe Financial is seeking a full time Supervisor, Fund Reporting to support the semi-annual and annual financial reporting for its investment funds and daily fund oversight. Reporting to the Fund Controller, the candidate will draft financial statements, including note disclosure, oversee the day to day financial reporting requirements for its investment funds as well as preparation of tax reporting. The candidate should be comfortable with performing accounting research, which includes researching current/proposed accounting standards and regulatory guidance, and providing recommendations as required. The candidate will also participate in the full financial reporting process, from completing working paper support through completing the financial statements, disclosure and management report of fund performance. Other duties include, but are not limited to, calculating fund returns and assisting with oversight of investment fund NAVs as prepared by third party service providers.

 

This role will be based in Calgary with possible occasional travel to Toronto.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Large emphasis on fund related tax preparation and filing
  • Corporate Action review
  • Accounting research (IFRS, ASPE, Regulatory, Comparable entities)
  • Proposing changes to financial statement templates, MRFPs and preparation processes
  • Preparation and review of interim and year end working paper packages
  • Liaising with auditors during interim review and year end audit
  • Assistance with review and oversight of externally managed NAVs
  • Oversee mutual fund distributions
  • Quarterly tax estimates
  • Compliance reporting
  • Calculating fund returns
  • Assistance with other projects as required

     

Requirements

The successful candidate has 5 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including working paper support and financial statement preparation, including note disclosure.  Involvement with Management Report of Fund Performance (“MRFP”) or Management Discussion and Analysis preparation as well as exposure to tax, from a fund perspective, would be considered key assets.  Preference will be given to individuals with an accounting designation.  The candidate should be motivated, able to work in a small office environment either independently or as part of a team, prioritize and manage competing priorities, have strong analytical and communication skills and have keen interest in problem solving.  As the organization continues to grow, the candidate must be willing and able to accept change and be proactive in identifying and recommending opportunities for improvements that create efficiencies and improve controls. Additionally, the candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Excel. 

 

Compensation

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
