Reporting to the Controller, the Manager, Budgeting, Reporting & Financial Analysis is responsible for budgeting, reporting and financial analysis for The Mustard Seed organizations, along with the leadership and development of the finance staff.



Reconciliation Process:

  • Approve the general ledger reconciliations verifying that the balances are correct and accurate
  • Investigate any discrepancies thoroughly that are identified ensuring proper corrective actions are taken to resolve these discrepancies
  • Approve bank account, balance sheet account, investment account and other account reconciliations
  • Review & approve all reconciliation activities performed by Financial Analyst and assist in resolving discrepancies
  • Record, review & approve journal entries made by Financial Analyst (standard and corrective)
  • Act as a point of contact in the absence of Financial Analyst
  • Provide supporting documentation for audits


  • Responsible for the organizations’ budget preparation including preparation of appropriate templates, provision of comparable and historic data, direction and coaching to all budget owners to enable the timely collection of data for the creation of appropriate, realistic and on-target budgets
  • Timely variance analysis on a monthly basis, with early warning of areas of concern
  • Produce & analyze reports for budget owners, senior management and Committees of the Board


  • Application of reporting frameworks for the purposes of communicating both financial and non-financial performance including reporting on both routine and non-routine transactions
  • Review and assess the existing reporting applications. Review the Financial Analyst’s report production for reasonability, accuracy and provide feedback before sign off
  • Produce & analyze reports: Committees of the Board + Board Reporting, Annual Consolidation Report, and unaudited Financial Statements
  • Facilitate the requirements gathering & communicate data and/or information to assist organization in making business decisions based on evidence
  • Production & analysis responsibilities based on specific data requirements provided by organizations
  • Responsible for bringing forward to leadership, any potential issues that could be defined as risks and carrying out any mitigating actions, as required


  • Train and evaluate employees to enhance their performance and development
  • Address performance issues and make recommendations for personnel actions
  • Motivate and reward employees including providing salary increases, bonuses and promotions within allocated budgets and organization guidelines
  • Develop, implement and maintain systems, procedures and policies, to ensure adherence to organization guidelines
  • Prepares and recommends operating and personnel budgets for approval. Monitors spending for adherence to budget, recommends variances as necessary
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations


  • Perform other duties such as special projects and analysis as assigned by the supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, or related field; combination of experience and formal education will be considered
  • CPA Accounting designation, or working towards a CPA designation
  • Minimum 3 years’ financial report analyst experience, preferably within a multi-level organization
  • Minimum 3 years’ general accounting and budgeting experience
  • Experience with MIS reporting system an asset
  • Experience with Financial Force would be an asset
  • Experience in a multi-level, not for profit organization is an asset
  • Strong technical skills in financial and accounting areas of practice, including GAAP
  • Proven experience of accounting processes, procedures, controls and reporting including management of accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledgers
  • Understanding of accounting principles and concepts, and adept at utilization of financial and accounting systems
  • Ability to work within a ‘hands-on’ accounting environment
  • Solid understanding of financial modelling and the ability to translate operational plans into fiscal plans
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizing skills with close attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to present numbers and facts in a creative, conceptual and meaningful manner
  • Ability to use discretion, judgment and tact in handling sensitive or confidential information or situations
  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Expert knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and experience with Sage accounting and business intelligence and other tools
  • Experience in managing multiple priorities.  Well organized and able to work independently and utilize sound judgement to perform all assigned duties with minimal supervision
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, clients and community agencies
  • Experience working independently as well as within a team environment
  • Excellent client service skills. Able to handle high volumes and multiple priorities in a professional, courteous manner while meeting strict deadlines

  • Office Setting, Monday – Friday during business hours
