If you have interest in being a part of fast paced, corporate financial environment that provides critical accounting services to the City of Edmonton, look no further! Financial Services is looking for a Senior Accountant position within its Corporate Accounting and Reporting area.
This temporary Senior Accountant position in Corporate Accounting and Reporting - Operating, provides support and information to facilitate decision making to clients through strategic technical advice on accounting and reporting, recommendations for routine and non-routine transactions and financial statement preparation.

Responsible for a variety of general accounting, account reconciliation, journal vouchers, and legislated financial reporting needs for the City’s branches and the departments

Ensure timely and accurate completion of month end financial close and reports.

Manage and perform the financial close and reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis

Provide advice and consultation relating to special requests, reports and projects, including advising on complex accounting transactions

Ensure general accounting support and services necessary to satisfy the day-to-day financial information need to the client

Development and implementation of new procedures, policies and guidelines related to accounting, controls, and financial reporting

Ensure the development and implementation of adequate internal accounting controls and accurate reporting through the enhancement and testing of financial systems

Continuous review of processes and procedures to find efficiencies

Coordinate and conduct training and/or coaching and guidance for other accounting professionals

Ensure consistency in the application of accounting policies, processes and procedures

Lead, analyze, review and deliver the non-consolidated business area financial package which involves individual complex accounting and team supervision to produce financial reports through balance sheet reconciliations for assigned client areas
Qualifications :

Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)

5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience within a large organization

Thorough knowledge of the corporate financial system and its interrelationship to departmental accounting operations

Understanding of public sector accounting standards (PSAS) as directed by Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada Public Sector Handbook

Highly developed problem solving, analytical, attention to detail, and conceptual skills for application in a complex financial environment

Excellent written and verbal communication, customer service, time management, and prioritization skills and the aptitude to maintain working relationships with all levels of management and non-management personnel

Strong problem solving skills and effective communication to resolve operational and business issues

Ability to direct, mentor, and coach subordinates

Technical proficiency in major financial systems such as SAP and advanced Microsoft Excel skills is required, in addition to proficiency using Google Applications and Microsoft Office Suite
