Volunteer Tax Clinic Mentor for Students

The CPA Alberta Tax Clinic Program is looking for volunteers. In 2019, from March 12 to April 18, tax clinics will be held in co-operation with seniors’ homes, community centres, and other not-for-profit agencies. The Tax Clinic Program mission is to help low-income Albertans complete their tax returns for free. CPAs, CPA candidates and students* are invited to volunteer for a number of available positions. If you or someone you know might be interested, please complete the online application form.

Note: If you are not a member of CPA Alberta, you will need to create an account before registering. Need help creating an account?

Tax Clinic Mentor for Students

Post-secondary students on accounting Co-op work terms and those enrolled in an accounting stream are eligible to volunteer, provided they have a qualified professional accountant to accompany them at a Tax Clinic. Unfortunately, quite often these students do not know a CPA and, therefore, cannot volunteer. By pairing Tax Clinic mentors with a student, we can utilize these volunteers. Mentors are expected to assist students in preparing personal income tax forms and answer any questions they might have on-site. Mentors will not be expected to complete the tax return, but rather guide the student. Individuals interested in volunteering as a mentor must be a CPA and have a minimum of three years of  tax clinic experience.

*A CPA must be present to supervise any post-secondary student volunteers at a clinic.
