Senior Corporate Accountant

Are you an innovative thinker, with an eye for detail and quality?  The Wheaton Group is looking for a Senior Accountant to join its corporate accounting team.  A family-owned organization, the Wheaton Group owns a variety of businesses inlcuding automotive dealerships, a group of insurance companies and a bank focused on retail auto lending.  As part of the corporate accounting team you will responsible for the group's various holding companies. Reporting to the CFO, the role is hands-on, with involvement in the day to day activities of the Corporate Group, leadership over a small accounting department, as well as assisting the CFO with various ongoing projects and transactions.

 Areas of responsibility include:

  • Preparation of the monthly financial statements and analysis;
  • Development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures and ensure they are followed;
  • Oversee yearend audits and tax compliance for the corporate entities, working closely with external auditors to ensure effective and smooth yearends.
  • Assist CFO and work with people across various departments on projects and strategic decision making;
  • Assist with cash flow management;
  • Oversee account reconciliations, expenses, general adjustments, and preparation of documentation for journal entries
  • Responsible for ensuring all Corporate filings and remittances are completed and filed within required timelines;

The ideal candidate would have the following:

  • 3+ years' of progressive accounting experience;
  • CPA designation;
  • Some corporate tax experience would be an asset;
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Proven ability to perform under tight timelines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Solid accounting, GAAP & IFRS knowledge;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs of the organization and help manage change;
  • Leadership potential with exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate with staff at all levels of the organization;
  • Excellent decision making skills;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Strong initiative and a constant focus on creating efficiencies;
