ABOUT FORT MCKAY

The Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN) is composed of over 800 band members, including those of Cree and Dene heritage, with approximately 400 members residing in the hamlet of Fort McKay — a community located approximately 65 km north of Fort McMurray. ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a dynamic detail-oriented Manager of Financial Reporting to join our Accounting Team to fill a 6-month term contract, with possibility of a permanent position after the contract.

The Manager of Financial Reporting will report directly to the CFO and will work closely with the team to forecast and communicate company financial performance and actual variances from expectations. You will handle complex special projects as assigned, prepare monthly reports for internal and external stakeholders, follow prescribed procedures to open and close accounts in a timely manner and maintain reconcilement reports to meet audit standards.

 

RESPONSIBITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior management abreast of the organization’s financial status
  • Oversee all financial and project accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with budgets
  • Monthly preparation and distribution of unaudited internal financial statements
  • Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, products costing and financial forecasting
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget document, including compiling approved departmental expenditure budgets, revenue estimates and various narratives into the annual budget document
  • Serve as an essential member of the team that develops and maintains the organization’s accounting policies and procedures and internal controls
  • Work closely with Manager of Accounting Operations on accuracy of reporting requirements
  • Support the CFO in engaging the Chief and Council on issues around the annual audit, trust and joint ventures

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • CPA designation considered an asset
  • Minimum 6-8 years of progressive experience in accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management/supervisory role
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced use of Sage 300 and Excel considered an asset
  • Proficient use of MS Office programs
  • Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract Required
  • Experience working in a First Nations community is considered an asset
  • Ability to  speak, read and write Cree and/or Dene considered an asset
  • Successful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta
