Primary Focus

  • The Sr Accountant, Tidal Power Accounting role is responsible for the reconciliation, settlement, input and documentation of current and new power related invoices. Power invoices are complex and involve accessing and manipulating large amounts of data from multiple systems and websites.
  • This position will also prepare the data for various regulatory and tax filings for Tidal Power.

 

Responsibilities

 

Daily Power Cash Settlements and Invoicing

  • Query scheduling and risk system for pertinent deal information to reconcile ISO and other counterparty invoiced data to company systems.
  • Investigates, documents and resolves deal discrepancies between scheduling, risk and ISO data in the related systems/invoices by communicating with trading, risk and external sources.
  • Tests system updates as necessary in the resolution of discrepancies.
  • Identifies more complex discrepancies and provides initial findings to applicable person  for resolution.
  • Performs settlement of various power invoices with varying frequencies, including ISO invoices and other counterparty invoicing, and is responsible for including daily checks between systems as required.
  • Ensure ISO reports that support invoicing and payment calendars are maintained.
  • Pre-settlement performed on ISO statements prior to invoices received.
  • Generate invoices for counterparties as required for optimization of assets and other contracts as established.
  • Process all G&A invoices for payment.
  • Maintains up-to-date documentation of processes.

 

Accounting Input and Verification

  • Verifies and inputs invoice amounts into A/R and A/P sub ledgers, including all necessary backup attached for control purposes.
  • Prepares and inputs journal entries into general ledger system.
  • Follows internal and SOX financial controls.

 

Regulatory and Tax Reporting

  • Prepares data to meet US and Canadian regulatory and tax reporting requirements.

 

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepares information for audit requests.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with Audit Services, Corporate Internal Controls and external auditors.
  • Other financial account analysis as required.

 

Project Support and Continuous Improvement

  • Assists with implementation of process and accounting system improvements.
  • Performs testing of various reports to ensure accuracy in all systems.
  • Assists in special projects to increase the capabilities and effectiveness supporting the growth of the power marketing business when required.
  • Supports the continuous improvement process.

 

Provides backup as Required

  • Complex system relationships (financial systems, market scheduling and risk systems).
  • Each power market has unique rules, fees, nomenclature, reporting and payment schedules. Reporting is extremely complex as there can be more than 20 supporting schedules to each invoice depending on the market.
  • In the reconciliation process, identifies, quantifies, documents and proposes solutions to address issues related to invoices, systems or data.
  • Accountable for understanding Oracle financial system A/P and A/R input/update processes.
  • This position directly supports the increasing volumes of power transactions, which will result in high cash flow levels for Enbridge.
  • Multiple customer groups require accurate and timely reporting routines.
  • Interaction with management and professional support in multiple departments and work locations.

 

Qualifications

  • University degree in a related financial discipline (accounting, finance or financial risk management).
  • Professional accounting designation, or within one year of completion or completion of Accounting Certificate.
  • 2-4 years of progressive accounting work experience.
  • Experience in Canadian and US power markets.
  • Strong excel skills with the ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to document processes and examples of system and data discrepancies.
  • Willingness to learn and grow, and adaptable to process changes as the business grows.
  • Team player with effective interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and willing to work with Front and Mid office in person.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle financial systems and commodity marketing risk systems would be considered an asset.
