Senior Accountant, Operations - 6 Month Contract

Supporting Volker Stevin Canada and its diverse group of related companies, the Senior Accountant supports the operational accounting process in order to maximize service to internal customers which contributes to the strong and reliable reputation of Volker Stevin Group as a whole.  Working collaboratively with the accounting team and providing superior customer service, the Senior Accountant will provide assistance to the operational finance teams for the Contracting and Highways divisions, thereby increasing the timeliness and quality of financial information provided to management and internal/external parties.

The Senior Accountant will:

• Demonstrate sound technical accounting knowledge and the ability to apply those skills to the Volker Stevin Canada group of companies
• Provide timely financial reporting of tasks assigned by the Assistant Controller, Operations
• Provide value-added business process analysis, including analysis of process weaknesses, implications and recommendations for all Volker Stevin Canada subsidiaries
• Demonstrate a solution driven approach with respect to issues identified in accounting practices or internal controls for all Volker Stevin Canada subsidiaries
• Maintain a high level of discretion in all confidential issues
• Maintain a professional image with internal and external contacts

The Senior Accountant will:

• Responsible for assisting the operational finance teams for the Contracting and Highways divisions with financial reporting and full cycle accounting through recording of monthly adjustments
• Assist with preparing formal analysis of monthly financial results and other areas as required
• Provide analysis and recommendation for continuous improvement of financial information and assist with process documentation, analysis, and control recommendations for all cycles within our group of companies
• Provide assistance to peers through performing other functions within the Accounting group as required (this may include Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Inventory, etc)
• Provide strategic, implementation, and accounting support for special projects as needed by the Divisional Controllers, Corporate Controller and/or CFO

Qualifications & Experience 

• CPA Designation
• 3+ years of relevant work experience in a professional environment
• Post-secondary degree
• Ability to work independently and in a team oriented environment
• Detail oriented, ability to show initiative and take responsibility
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
• Microsoft Excel Proficiency
• Experience with Databases would be an asset
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience in construction industry, an asset
