Senior Financial Analyst

Dominion Diamond Mines is a Canadian diamond mining company with ownership interests in two major producing diamond mines situated approximately 200 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle in Canada’s Northwest Territories. The Company operates the Ekati Diamond Mine, in which it owns a controlling interest, and also owns 40% of the Diavik Diamond Mine. It supplies rough diamonds to the global market through its sorting and selling operations in Canada, Belgium and India and is Canada’s largest independent diamond producer. 

The Company maximizes the sales value of its rough stones from the Diavik and Ekati Diamond Mines and maintains a preferred position as a supplier of rough diamonds to the world’s diamond manufacturers (cutters and polishers) by dealing directly with them and tailoring rough diamond parcels to the client’s particular needs.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager Financial Reporting and working a Monday to Friday schedule at the Calgary Corporate Office, the Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the financial reporting and consolidation systems and related internal controls, assisting with complex accounting transactions, and other general accounting duties. Occasional travel to the Ekati mine site may be required.

The Responsibilities

  • Prepare various financial analyses including balance sheet and income statement variance analysis by comparing to budget and prior year;
  • Performing monthly group consolidation and internal reporting package;
  • Prepare consolidated interim and annual financial statements with note disclosures;
  • Assist with preparation of management discussion and analysis (“MD&A”);
  • Assist with preparation of tax, managerial, joint venture and accounting packages;
  • Ensure compliance with financial and joint venture accounting requirements and policies (IFRS);
  • Assist with research and documentation of complex accounting transactions and application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS);
  • Lead/participate in different optimization projects for financial processes;
  • Prepare and document period-end controls to ensure compliance with the Company's internal controls framework;
  • Coordinate work with other groups; and
  • Coordinate audit requests and assist with year-end audit.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce / Business
  • Professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with 5 to 10 years’ work experience
  • Strong technical and working knowledge of IFRS
  • Financial reporting experience or public company audit experience is desired
  • SAP experience is an asset
  • Big 4 experience is preferred
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office applications
  • Motivated individual who works well both independently and as a team member
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, problem solving and decision-making capability
  • Ability to adapt to change and work under a deadline driven environment

The successful candidate will be detailed orientated and should have strong communication skills. They will be required to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, work effectively as a team member, and work independently in a changing business, which requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
