Controller

One of our clients, Giant Oil Tools, a rapidly growing mid-size company in the Oil Field Equipment industry, is currently looking for a Controller for their south east Calgary head office. The Controller will provide leadership around financial planning, forecasting, and the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures for all Canadian and US operations. They will effectively manage and oversee cash management, cost reporting and the full cycle accounting process for the organization. The ideal candidate must be able to work effectively and independently in a fast-paced environment.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company
  • Maintain and improve accounting practices, processes, systems and internal controls to ensure that reported results comply with reporting standards and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports
  • Oversee accounting, billing, banking, payroll, and auditing procedures
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of departments
  • Monitor, analyze and report on monthly operating results
  • Manage collection of accounts receivable and assist with collection efforts
  • Manage the preparation of the official annual report of actual revenues, transfers, and expenses
  • Participate in the development of short and long term business plans for the company
  • Serve as primary legislative liaison relative to company financial issues
  • Direct financial audits and provide recommendations for procedural improvements
  • Manage a team of three direct reports

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have the CPA designation, with 3-5 years of relevant Controller experience. Public practice experience prior to industry would be considered an asset
  • Be familiar with finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAP)
  • Be familiar with cross-border (Canada – US) operations. US accounting experience required
  • Have 3+ years of management experience in a fast-paced organization
  • Have working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
  • Possess outstanding critical thinking skills
  • SAGE experience preferred
