Manager, Financial Reporting

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Finance, the Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for the reliable and timely management of the external financial reporting function of Stuart Olson Inc. (the “Company”), internal controls, and other aspects of internal and external reporting.

This position is based in our Calgary, AB office.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Demonstrate the Promise and contribute to it becoming embedded across the organization.

Financial Reporting and Internal Controls

  • Manage the consolidation of the Company’s consolidated financial statements.
  • Lead the production of the monthly consolidated financial reporting packages and reporting for senior management.
  • Manage the preparation of the quarterly financial statements, including financial statement notes, and assisting with/reviewing related public disclosure documents.
  • Ensure the accuracy, interpretation and presentation of all financial reports and statements of the Company, including analysis for internal executive management and the Board of Directors.
  • Produce components for the quarterly Audit Committee package.
  • Manage relationships with and requests from auditors, including the preparation of the electronic working papers for the external audit and review processes for the Company.
  • Research and implement the impact of changes to IFRS accounting standards on the Company.
  • Achieve Company objectives and key performance targets as laid out in the long-range and annual business and strategic plans.
  • Ensure the day-to-day business affairs of the finance team are appropriately managed, including working with and assisting the centralized shared services accounting team.
  • Lead the research and accounting for complex and technical accounting matters, including share-based compensation accounting and earnings per share calculations.
  • Liaise with internal audit in respect of internal controls, including ensuring that applicable controls in place are adequately designed, implemented and consistently followed.
  • Manage financial analysis in respect of core operations, accounting changes and special projects.
  • Assisting, as required, with operating and corporate accounting, reporting and analysis.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in business or finance
  • Designated CPA with accounting firm experience
  • 2 - 5 years’ post designation accounting, audit or financial reporting experience, or equivalent 
  • Experience working for or auditing a public company, including a working knowledge of public company reporting requirements and IFRS
  • Multi-disciplined financial professional with outstanding analytical and problem solving skills
  • Intermediate/advanced user of MS office software (MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Experience with SAP or another ERP system an asset 
  • Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently
