Controller

OVERVIEW:

The Controller is a key member of the management team at ICON Stone & Tile, accountable for the full financial and accounting cycle of the business and encompassing a wide range of production and manufacturing administration and management. As a key leader in a medium sized entrepreneurial organization, the Controller plays a central role in the business and has the opportunity to contribute and drive business results through a hands on, analytical perspective in financial, administration and production functions.

This is a hands-on position requiring an individual who can take on a wide variety of tasks at all levels, have a high degree of ownership and proactive “get it done” approach along with the ability to be a leader and collaborator with management and production teams to achieve business results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and complete full cycle financial reporting and analyses on a monthly basis
  • Oversee and manage corporate budget and forecast
  • Manage full scope year end process through to sign off with auditor
  • Manage cashflow proactively and effectively
  • Develop and produce KPI financial and production reports and statistical analysis on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Maintain banking relationship and provide monthly bank reporting
  • Process ongoing payroll and remittances
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable and collections
  • Manage order fulfillment process
  • Maintain accounting, operations and IT systems ensuring adequate reliability and controls
  • Complete purchasing and procurement of inventory
  • Lead inventory count
  • Contract management and administer progress billing
  • Risk management and corporate insurance renewal
  • Manage fixed assets, vehicles and benefits administration
  • Manage all balance sheet items including inventory, fixed assets, prepaids, loans, leases
  • Participate in strategic planning with management team and in overall day to day management with sales, production and scheduling
  • Create and maintain strong internal controls and processes
  • Provide training, guidance and assistance to other employees and leaders in all areas
  • Review business and production results and provide insights and recommendations on potential improvements and problem solving with team

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • 10 years experience of hands on full cycle financial accounting
  • 10 years experience in medium sized general business management and administration
  • 5 years of management or supervisory experience
  • Diploma in Accounting or Bookkeeping is desirable
  • CPA designation not essential required but is an asset
  • Experience in a manufacturing and production environment

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong breadth of full cycle financial accounting and administration
  • Manufacturing and production knowledge
  • General knowledge of inventory management, contract management, risk management, purchasing, systems and reporting
  • General payroll and Alberta employment standards knowledge

Systems:

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, Access
  • QuickBooks accounting system experience is an asset, or the ability to learn

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May be required to work overtime and weekends during month end and year end deadlines

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires long periods of sitting in an office environment and using computers, screens and peripheral equipment for most of the day
  • Interaction and presence in the production facility as required
