Senior Accountant, Corporate

Rohit Group of Companies is a diversified organization with operations in home building, residential and land development, residential rentals, commercial assets, and real estate lending. We are one of Canada’s fastest growing real estate companies, with operations in over 9 municipalities across western Canada with expansion into the US market currently underway. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Senior Accountant liaises with the various operational business units to pull it all together.

The position offers exposure to all aspects of accounting, including financial reporting, tax, treasury, banking, payroll and financing. Some of the primary responsibilities of the position will be ensuring regulatory and legal compliance of the organization, which is structurally complex.

We look for team members who are technically savvy; with the initiative to continually drive the improvement of accounting systems and processes for big picture growth. The candidate must be a self-starter and passionate about continually learning and improving.

The company is undergoing a digital transformation from an older ERP system into Microsoft Dynamics which is part of the Office 365 platform. This role also provides a hands-on opportunity to assist in the change to the new cloud-based ERP platform and its applicability to a brick and mortar business.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and process:
    • intercompany transactions
    • cost allocations and accruals
    • monthly account reconciliations and journal entries
    • monitoring of holdbacks
    • review of work-in-progress
    • variance analysis
  • Preparation of quarterly and year-end documents and analytics required by stakeholders and/or external accountants
  • If required:
  • research and analysis of tax issues
  • preparation of GST and PST returns
  • preparation of corporate income tax returns for bare trusts
  • preparation of T5s, and T4NRs
  • Prepare and present general ad hoc reports and presentations for Project Managers and Senior Executives

REQUIREMENTS

  • Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, CPA) preferred but not required
  • 3-5 years experience relating to financial reporting and particularly project accounting
  • Technologically proficient, with strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization, analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on attention to details
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Previous experience with a construction company is an asset
