Senior Accountant, Housing Operations

Rohit Communities is one of Canada’s fastest growing home builders. With operations in over 9 municipalities across Alberta and Saskatchewan, and operations eventually expanding to the US, we are looking for a Senior Accountant in our Housing division to help us manage and sustain this level of growth.

The Senior Accountant, Housing will report to the Controller, Housing Operations with indirect reporting also to the Production Manager, Housing Operations. The individual is expected to learn on the job by having an active presence on site, in show homes and retail centres, and in the office. The individual is also strongly encouraged to know the competition by visiting competing subdivisions and show homes.

The individual is expected to combine expertise in accounting and expertise developed in housing to make recommendations to improve efficiency and profitability of the business. With a strong family-oriented culture and a team full of intrinsically motivated individuals, constructive debate is highly encouraged. The candidate must have the ability to work within ad hoc groups and promote their view point through solid research and effective communication.

The candidate must demonstrate advanced knowledge of WIP and finished goods inventory management and job costing. Experience in generating management accounting reports is important. Knowledge of dynamic revenue management, design and implementation of fixed cost allocation schemes is a good to have.

The organization is undergoing a digital transformation from an older ERP system into Microsoft Dynamics which is part of the office 365 platform. This role also provides a hands-on opportunity to help lead the change to the new cloud based ERP platform and its applicability to a brick and mortar business.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • All traditional accounting transactions related to housing including adjusting entries for financial statements and allocations of costs
  • Manage receivables, holdbacks and cost variances
  • Manage WIP and Finished Goods inventory
  • Preparation of quarterly and year-end financial and management accounting reports for various stakeholders
  • Develop, maintain and report on operational project budgets and cashflows

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors Degree in Commerce preferably with a focus on Operational / Management accounting; Alternates will be reviewed. An accounting designation (CMA/CPA/CA) is not a pre-requisite  
  • 3-5 years experience working in a manufacturing or construction management business is preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience relating to financial reporting and project accounting is preferred
  • Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of management accounting and costing
  • Strong communication and presentation skills are required
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel is required – testing may be conducted as part of the interview process
