Accountant, Fixed Assets - (Calgary, Alberta, Canada)

Located at our office in South Calgary, and reporting to the Senior Accountant Fixed Assets, this position oversees and supports overall fixed assets and capitalization requirements as well as disclosure for our N,P,K and Corporate segments.

What you will do:

  • Create, Review, and post journal entries during monthly close process as needed
  • Review Assets under construction (AUC) general ledger accounts by Authority for Expenditure (AFE) project numbers for policy conformity
  • Prepare the monthly capital spending report for management
  • Analyze monthly additions and retirements
  • Assist in reconciling the asset management system to the general ledger system
  • Work with the business to set-up fixed assets for new locations
  • Assist with completion of monthly and quarterly reporting from corporate, external and internal auditors, and the tax department
  • Collaborate with team members and departments to find efficiencies in processes
  • Prepare Fixed Asset continuities and schedules
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
  • Troubleshoot issues and work with plant Finance to resolve

What you will bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from a recognized institution
  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant business experience is required
  • CPA designation
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS
  • SAP experience is desired
  • Fixed Asset experience is preferred
  • Oracle experience is an asset
  • Highly detail oriented
  • Self-Motivated and able to prioritize and work well with competing deadlines
  • Mature attitude and ability to deal effectively in a team environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to explain financial data to non-financial stakeholders

  • Proficient computer skills, including Advanced Microsoft Excel
