(Up to 12 Months)

The Municipal Accounting team is seeking a Senior Accounting Assistant to work with our designated accountants to provide service and support across our diverse organization.  Responsibilities for this position include assisting with the preparation of accurate monthly and tri-annual operating, capital and cash flow documents; providing departmental clients with developing variance projections; and assisting accounting staff with the preparation of year end working papers and financial statements and reports for grant funded programs. In addition, this role reviews and approves journal vouchers with supporting documentation, prepares monthly account analysis and reconciliations, and performs internal control audits.

As our ideal candidate, you will bring personal drive, initiative, and strong planning and organizational skills. Your knowledge of GAAP and PSAS accounting principles combined with your understanding of departmental client requests will help you support the Finance Department to ensure fiscal accountability and control is maintained, and client departments are provided with sound financial information to support decision-making. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Business Administration Diploma (accounting major) or equivalent
  • Four (4) years of experience in an accounting environment, with progression towards complex tasks
  • Experience with accounting based software and windows based office software
  • Management approved equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
