Treasurer Description

The Board of Directors: The Knight’s Cabin Board of Directors meets monthly and functions as an operational board, helping to run the day-to-day operations of the organization with volunteer teams across Canada. 

 

Time commitment: 2-4 hours/week, depending on season

 

Location: You can be located anywhere in Canada

 

Responsibilities:

  • Chairing and preparing agendas for the Funding and Finance Committee

  • Keeping full and accurate accounts of all receipts and disbursements of Knight’s Cabin (the “Organization”) in proper books of accounts

  • Depositing all monies and/or other valuable effects in the name and to the credit of the Organization in the bank account of the Organization as designated by the Board of Directors

  • Disbursing funds of the Organization under direction of the Board, as required, and taking proper account of these transactions

  • Regularly reporting to the Board, monthly and as requested, on the status of the account, upcoming credits or debits, and the overall financial health of the Organization

  • Managing the finances of the Organization, including the Board’s review of and action related to, financial responsibilities

  • Regularly reporting to the Board on key financial events, trends, concerns, and overall assessment of fiscal health of the Organization

  • Providing an annual budget to the Board for the Organization’s members’ approval

  • Reviewing budgets for events being held by the Organization

  • Ensuring development and Board review of financial procedures and systems

  • Recommending to the Board whether the Organization should have an audit

  • Assisting in the selection of an auditor, if needed, and meeting with him/her annually

  • Attend monthly Board meetings via Skype

  • Supporting fundraising activities of the organization

  • Other powers and duties as assigned and agreed upon by the Board to move forward the mission of the Organization

 

Requirements: 

  • Financial background is required (i.e. bookkeeping or accounting experience in a current or previous job)

  • Professional accounting designation is an asset, but not a requirement

  • Designate two to four (2-4) hours per week to the Board of Directors

  • Ability to organize priorities and engage resources to staff those priorities

  • Has time to attend monthly Board meetings  (1-1.5 hours)

  • Has time to attend committee meetings, as required

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

 

Desired Skills:

  • Shares and believes in the vision for KC as a behaviour-change, research-based organization that delivers wellness retreats

  • Organized and detail-oriented

  • Prior board experience an asset

  • Can juggle priorities and engage resources to staff those priorities

  • Experience with fundraising and fund development

  • Experience with non profit organization(s) desired, but not required
