ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Methanex is currently seeking a Financial Analyst to join the team in Medicine Hat on a full-time basis.

In this role, you will provide analytical and financial expertise for the Methanex Medicine Hat site facilitating informed business decisions and effective management of resources as well as process improvements and efficiencies. 

This role will also focus on financial stewardship and reputation through compliance with accounting standards, company policies and sound governance.

Please note that this is a temporary position with a duration of approximately 12 months.

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a post-secondary degree in business, economics, finance or accounting combined with 3 years of experience in a relevant accounting position(s). Demonstrated experience with fixed asset accounting, capital budgets, reporting and financial analysis is preferred, as is the completion, or current enrollment, in a professional designation program.

You will also possess:

  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and standards, particularly International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Solid knowledge and experience preparing financial reports.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of financial software, and Microsoft Office programs, including excellent Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley legislation relevant to accounting processes.
  • Experience in project planning and cost management (asset).
  • Consistent ability to think and act in a systematic and analytical manner.
  • Strategic agility, including the ability to analyse and interpret data, accurately identify trends and issues, recognize similarities between current and past circumstances, and anticipate future consequences and trends.
  • Superior research, analysis and presentation skills.
  • Sound judgment with a demonstrated ability to generate effective options in response to issues and make valuable decisions based on a mixture of analysis, wisdom and experience.
