Director, Accounting

Reporting directly to the Manager of Finance and Commercial Integration, the Director of Accounting is primarily responsible for leading the accounting function and successfully developing and executing projects aimed at improving accounting processes and data integrity. The Candidate must be self motivated and possess expertise in financial and managerial accounting as well as leadership.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Overseeing month end closing activities and the results

  • Employee development
  • Leading a team of 4 accountants and Team Lead of Settlement Accounting with 3 direct reports
  • Managing change of the ERP system upgrade:
    • Point person for Closing Accounting including Tax
    • Work with project team in design phase for Canadian operations
    • Coordinate testing
    • Responsible for smooth implementation
  • Manage:
    • Earnings analysis and management reporting
    • Inventory accounting and analysis
    • Foreign exchange earnings analysis
    • Ensuring accounting records are compliant to company policy and US GAAP
    • Tax and transfer pricing
  • Drive process improvements

Position Requirements

Basic/Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • University degree
  • Professional accounting designation
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Excel, Word, Outlook);
  • SAP experience

Preferred:

  • 5 or more years of leadership experience
  • 5 or more years of related industry experience, ideally in downstream Crude Oil Accounting/Finance experience
  • US GAAP and IFRS experience an asset
  • Experience managing an ERP system implementation
  • Strong leadership qualities, building and maintaining an effective team
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Able to prioritize demands from various departments
  • Self-motivated, effective team player
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Possess an orientation to service and meeting customer’s needs
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Must be able to operate effectively in an open office environment
  • Additional hours may be required from time to time
