We are looking for an accounting professional with experience in the transportation industry for a permanent full time Controller position. The ideal candidate for this position will have a positive attitude, strong attention to detail and exceptional problem-solving abilities. This position will be based out of our office in Edmonton.

The successful applicant will be expected to oversee and manage day to day accounting duties for a number of transportation and land companies with a team of up to 6 people. Experience and knowledge of full-cycle accounting, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, Gov’t filings (WCB, IFTA, GST, T2 tax returns) and month/year end reconciliations is necessary. The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving abilities, critical thinking capacity and a desire to continuously learn. Responsibilities

The successful candidate is accountable for but not limited to:

  • Overseeing duties for a team of up to 6 people
  • Leading day-to-day accounting activities as pertaining to all aspects of A/P, A/R, Payroll, Fixed Asset, Cash Flow, Corporate Banking, Month/Year End procedures
  • Preparing GST, IFTA, WCB, T4 returns
  • Managing General Ledger and Intercompany account reconciliations
  • Completing regular month end and year entries and system updates (closing entries, accruals, financial entries, allocations)
  • Preparing year end files
  • Preparing Corporate tax returns
  • Computer/Phone systems management
  • Coordinating duties and managing other members of the operations and accounting teams as needed

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or related field
  • Completion of a Canadian accounting designation (equivalencies will be considered)
  • 10+ years experience of full cycle accounting required
  • Candidates with prior transportation industry experience will be given preference
  • Prior experience with IFRS requirements would be an asset
  • Proficiency/experience with using and managing IT software is an asset (Truckmate, Sage)
  • Must possess excellent  Microsoft Excel skills
  • Prior supervisory experience is an asset
  • Strong time management, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with multiple deadlines and priorities

Work Conditions

  • 40+ hours per week
  • Extra time will be required
