Volunteer Treasurer

Description of Charity/Foundation:
RESET is a registered non-profit organization that operates 24 hours a day, year-round, for nearly thirty years. We provide client driven, long-term, comprehensive, wraparound programming and support for women (age 16 and above) who have experienced sexual exploitation and/or sex trafficking. Our programming encompasses extending services to pregnant women, and women with children, as well as women experiencing co-occurring issues and challenges such as addiction, trauma, and homelessness.
Vision: For sexually exploited women and girls to know there is a way out.
Mission: To provide comprehensive individualized support and safe housing to women and girls age 16 and over exiting sexual exploitation and sex trafficking so that they may transform their lives.

Description of Role:
RESET Society of Calgary is seeking a new member of the Board of Directors to serve the position of Treasurer, whom is also a member of the Executive Committee and Chairs the Finance & Audit Committee.

Treasurer, Board of Directors
The Treasurer is responsible for the financial oversight of the organization in addition to participating in all key decisions made by the Board guided by our vision and delivered through our mission. The Treasurer will also participate in the governance of the organization through, but not limited to, strategic planning, financial planning, operational effectiveness, risk management, funding strategy and stakeholder management.

Chair, Finance & Audit Committee
As the primary responsibility is financial oversight, the Treasurer also Chairs the Finance & Audit committee who supports the Board in meeting its financial oversight responsibility by providing recommendations based on financial expertise and experience of the Committee members, thorough review of financial information and engagement of external expertise when deemed necessary. The Committee has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Oversight of financial position including annual budget, cash flow, financing options and investment options.
  • Oversight of the relationship between management and the external auditor including selection, remuneration, report approval and dispute resolution.
  • Oversight of financial statements including monthly reports, accounting principles, and internal controls.
  • Oversight of other financial information including funder’s requirements, authority limits and insurance coverage.

Member, Executive Committee
The Executive Committee consists of the President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary of the Board. The Executive Committee ensures the Executive Director is provided sufficient support in the management of the organization as well as ensure proper planning, organization and structure to the Board meetings.

CPA

Commitment:
Board Members are volunteers and are elected to the Board for a three-year term, with opportunity for re-election. The Board, the Finance & Audit Committee and the Executive Committee meet monthly, 10 times per year (July & December off) on a set schedule:

  • Executive Committee is held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (4:30PM-5:30PM)
  • Finance & Audit Committee is held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (5:30PM-7:00PM)
  • Board meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month (5:00PM-6:30PM)

Members are expected to attend, prepare in advance and participate in all scheduled meeting. As Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee, setting the agenda, recoding the minutes and preparing the Board report is expected.

RESET also depends on its governance volunteers to volunteer and/or attend annual events or fundraising activities.

Anticipated time commitment: Average 8-10 hours per month.

Ideally You:
Are an energetic, professional and proactive individual, with a CPA designation, 10+ years of professional accounting/finance experience, 5+ years of leadership experience with strength in financial governance, strategy and planning, plus a strong commitment to bettering the lives of women exiting sexual exploitation and/or sex trafficking
