A business-first collaborator and enterprise-wide finance influencer, the Director, Accounting and Reporting Advisory Services leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout their team to deepen stakeholder relationships, working proactively with operating businesses and functional units to develop business and accounting solutions that encompass all relevant operational considerations in collaboratively determining the most appropriate accounting and reporting treatment.

 

What you will do:

  • Drive proactive monitoring and interpretation of new and proposed accounting standards and financial reporting requirements and securities regulatory requirements for purpose of determining implications
  • Be a leading and respected authority on accounting matters
  • Understand and apply how risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in related day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Be a key influencer in finance throughout the Company, anticipating and surfacing issues, solving problems, recommending solutions and supporting operations, and exercising good business judgment
  • Be a respected collaborator with external stakeholders including legal counsel and auditors
  • Maintain a commitment to effective, efficient and consistent communication of financial results, through review and contribution to continuous disclosure documents, and ensuring the financial messaging is aligned to the key strategic direction of the business and in accordance with accounting standards
  • Author world-class quality, value added accounting interpretations and oversee and mentor team members to do the same
  • Simplify the most strategically important complex and non-routine business issues and transactions, form an understanding of the context, use practical experience and strong technical accounting skills to direct accounting analysis as required, challenge proposed solutions against accounting guidance and business objectives
  • Communicate the most complex matters strategically and effectively such that accountants and non-accountants become partners in deployment of recommended solutions
  • Lead a team of professional accountants with the objective of providing relevant, tailored and value-added accounting advice under IFRS and US GAAP
  • Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vision / values / business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team
  • Manage own and professional team’s priorities on an ongoing basis, ensure stakeholder requests are dealt with in a timely manner, expectations are managed throughout the process, and quality of deliverables
  • Educate business finance and other staff with respect to new and proposed policy and reporting developments and their impact

 

What you will bring:

  • CA/CPA
  • 15+ years of post CPA-qualification experience in business and/or finance roles, preferably with a mix of operational and corporate finance experience, ideally with a large diversified public company and/or a large public accounting firm
  • Specialization in and strong aptitude for complex accounting
  • History of anticipating and surfacing financial, accounting and regulatory issues, solving problems, recommending solutions and supporting operations, and exercising of good business judgment while performing these functions
  • Proven record of applying IFRS, US GAAP and Canadian and SEC securities rules in practice to the most complex business arrangements, contracts, and mergers and acquisitions
  • Highly effective communication skills with a long resume of written analyses of complex matters and a lengthy history of presenting on finance topics
  • Proven progressive and flexible thinker, influencer and implementer
  • A drive for achievement and excellence
  • Ability to grasp technical details and determine the macro-level issues
  • Detail oriented with the ability to think broadly and strategically
  • Ability to influence people and implement change
  • Experience with and aptitude for managing, coaching and mentoring a team
  • World-class understanding of global public company accounting and regulatory reporting requirements and their application in the current reporting environment
  • Understanding of public markets and market valuation techniques
