What Are We Looking For?

FortisAlberta is looking for an Auditor who has demonstrated success in conducting risk-based internal audits and has provided audit advisory services to support and enhance the system of risk management and internal control.

Reporting to the Director Internal Audit, the Auditor will support team members to plan, complete and report on Internal Audit projects according to the Code of Ethics and Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing established by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). This position will be required to serve as a team member or individual contributor on various audit projects, depending on the circumstances.

What will you bring to the Role?

  • A drive for results, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute with excellence on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Broad understanding of general business, internal control issues, and internal audit processes including technical knowledge & project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and interpret information from various sources, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability perform interviews and to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills to resolve issues, evaluate possible solutions and risks, and gain consensus.  This includes the ability to resolve problems, recognize opportunities for improvement and efficiency in processes and practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills in order to manage multiple and diverse priorities concurrently.
  • Strong customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in using MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint) and a familiarity with SAP.

Other Qualifications we are looking for:

  • Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline plus 3 to 5 years of relevant accounting, assurance and/or internal audit experience; or a suitable combination of relevant experience and professional qualifications may be considered.
  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA) is required.  Applicants who have met requirements of CPA program may be considered.
  • CMA, CGA, CA or CIA designation would be an asset. 
  • Direct experience documenting and testing as required by either Canadian ICFR standards or US SOX standards would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Audit Command Language (ACL) or other audit evaluation software would be an asset.
  • Working knowledge and experience with process / business modeling and Information Technology would be an asset.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset.
