Volunteer Treasurer

Description of Charity/Foundation:
P.A.L.S. – Project Adult Literacy Society is a not for profit organization serving adults who struggle with low literacy improve their reading, writing, speaking, basic math or computer skills. We deliver free non-credit and part-time adult foundational learning and literacy programs (reading, writing, speaking, basic math and computer skills) through one to one tutoring or small group work. All our tutors are volunteers. We believe that every person has the right to be functionally literate. Our vision is to create a community in which all adults are functionally literate so that they can meet their full potential.
Our mission is “Changing lives through literacy”.

Description of Role:
P.A.L.S. is seeking a new member of the Board of Directors to serve the position of Treasurer, who is also a member of the Executive Committee and Finance & Audit Committee.
We are transitioning from having a Treasurer who did all things financial, to having a ‘bookkeeper’ for managing day-today-finances and a Treasurer who will work closely with the bookkeeper for oversight and reporting to the Board.
The Treasurer:
• is a member of the Board, elected by the Board and provides regular reports of finances at monthly meetings
• chairs the Finance Committee and supports the budgeting process
• reports to the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors and provides leadership to carry out the terms of reference for the Finance Committee.
• collaborates with the Auditor and Bookkeeper in the review and presentation of the annual Auditor’s financial statements

Certification/Education Required:
CPA, CGA, CMA or equivalent preferred.
