Now Hiring Manager of Accounting

The City of Medicine Hat’s Finance Department is looking for an experienced Manager of Accounting to lead the Accounting group and be an integral member of the Finance management team.  This portfolio is responsible for providing financial accounting services for all City departments. You will work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Commissioner of Corporate Services, and Finance staff as well as other City Departments. This is a diverse, fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities and is customer focused.

You possess advance analytical and problem solving skills and are able to elicit and communicate a variety of business requirements to various stakeholders.  Your responsibilities will include managing and directing the accounting group, preparation of accurate and timely financial and management reports, interpreting financial information to facilitate decision making, and assist in the coordination of the preparation and presentation of the operating and capital budgets.  You will also, oversee the development and maintenance of accounting procedures and internal controls, and analyze and interpret accounting information to provide trends for review and discussion.

Required Qualifications:

  • A university degree majoring in Finance or Accounting supplemented by a professional accounting designation (CPA);
  • Seven (7) years’ experience in a variety of accounting practices including five (5) years at a supervisory level;
  • An equivalent combination of management approved training and experience may be considered.
