The BDIC uses a variety of tools and resources to support the economic success of northern businesses and entrepreneurs in communities across the NWT.  The organization strives to provide and support economic endeavours while recognizing that these opportunities have an equally significant social impact felt across the entire Northwest Territories. 

The Corporation plays a vital role in in the development and continued success of the northern economy by offering programs and services that support many northern and Indigenous business opportunities.  The BDIC accomplishes its mandate by promoting financial independence, assisting communities in capturing investment development opportunities and helping develop a diverse and viable northern economy.

This exciting opportunity requires a successful candidate that is a skilled problem solver with above average long-term strategic thinking/planning skills.  The CEO must have in-depth knowledge of financial and lending practices and will be looked to as an expert on the overall economic outlook for the NWT economy.  The CEO leads the senior management team in strategic planning, development and monitoring of the BDIC’s goals and objectives, risk identification and mitigation, and the management of its assets.  The CEO will be looked to as a Business leader tasked to provide expert advice and strategic opportunities to organizations, Indigenous Companies and entrepreneurs across the territory.

While the role is tasked with supporting businesses across the Territory it is based in Yellowknife.  The City of Yellowknife is a vibrant multi-cultural community of 20,000 situated on the shores of Great Slave Lake.  Yellowknife offers an abundance of fresh air, access to lakes and waterways and some of the shortest commutes in the country.  With all of the amenities you’d likely find in a big city, without the traffic, the city is a great place to call home.

The qualifications for this challenging and exciting opportunity would normally be obtained through completion of a graduate degree in finance, business administration, commerce or economics and/or an accounting designation combined with seven years of financial and lending experience at a senior level.  Investment experience would be considered an asset.
