Brentwood Community Development Group is a not for profit company dedicated to providing affordable housing to the Edmonton community.  We serve seniors, families and the disabled by providing subsidised and affordable housing.  We also partner with other support service agencies to provide a full suite of services.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for overseeing the operations of the business primarily focused on accounts receivables, accounts payable, payroll, pension plan, financial reporting, and support for marketing, sales and customer interactions.

The CFO will work out of our Matheson Seniors property located at 11445-135 Street and the hours of work are from 8:00-16:30, Monday to Friday.  

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and represent the company to the Auditor and to the Creditors
  • Process account payables, review and approve invoices, review coding and sign cheques
  • Review the payroll process to ensure compliance with applicable legislation and approve the release of funds
  • Oversee the pension plan to review for compliance with applicable legislation, approve the release of funds and work with a 3rd party to ensure legislated requirements are met
  • Oversee the month end process to ensure all balancing procedures are properly completed 
  • Create and review budgets with the Executive Director for each property
  • Prepare annual reports to CMHC and the Government of Alberta
  • Operate our rent subsidy programs
  • Resolve escalated tenant issues
  • Take legal action when tenants are failing to fulfil their obligations
  • Lead and support projects related to BCDG’s strategic plan that include modernization of payroll and payable systems
  • Supervise and mentor 4 staff to meet their job expectations and develop professionally
  • Attend meetings with the Executive Director and various stakeholders to support the growth and development of the organization
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to determine projections and growth activities

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requirements:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office
  • Prior experience with a major accounting package (e.g. Oracle, QuickBooks, Sage)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • A Criminal Record Check completed within the last 6 months

Assets:

  • Minimum 5 years’ leadership experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the non-profit sector
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the housing industry
  • A passion for help those who are in need
  • Experience reducing conflict and working cooperatively to find solutions
