Controller / Senior Accountant

Reports to: President

 

Job Summary:

Responsible for preparing the financials, generating and analyzing all job costing, production of supporting schedules and analysis of two operational plants.  Also responsible for the physical inventory counts at both the Canadian and US facilities. Direct supervision of 2-4 staff.  Dotted line reporting responsibility to the corporate office ensuring overall policies are followed.  Some travel required on occasion.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

 

Day to Day Duties:

  • Accountable for the timely and accurate reporting of all financial information to the divisional management and as well as the corporate office; including monthly statements, year-end closing documentation, financial forecasts and various reports
  • Responsible for the month end and year-end close process, including all financial statements, supporting schedules and reconciliations
  • Responsible for reporting accurate inventory figures and maintaining accurate job costing records
  • Processing of all hourly payroll as well as managing the hourly benefits program
  • Manage all physical inventory counts, travelling to various facilities when required
  • Ensure timely payment of sales tax and payroll remittances
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable invoicing, cash application and collections
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions
  • Co-ordinate all internal and external audits or reviews

  • Work with the leadership team in a strategic capacity
  • Support and assist in developing company goals
  • Continuously look for efficiencies and improvements and investigate ways to reduce costs
  • Establish, monitor and enforce internal controls
  • Develop, maintain and communicate financial metrics & controls to the leadership team
  • Participate in management meetings including production and sales & marketing
  • Assist sales staff members in understanding customer service issues related to costs and profitability or other departments as required
  • Ensure a good understanding of the overall day to day operations of the organization.

 

Qualifications

  • Five to Ten year’s work experience in accounting or finance,
  • Five years in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication and English language skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently or as a team with a hands on approach
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills
  • Detail orientated
  • Strategic and entrepreneurial thinking ability
  • University or college with a background in accounting or finance is preferred
  • Accounting designation or education similar to the historical CPA or CMA program would be an asset but not a requirement.
  • Experience with US branches / divisions an asset but not a requirement
