Summary of the Opportunity

SelfDesign® Learning Foundation is seeking an experienced accountant to join our Finance team. The team provides accounting services and financial reporting for an organization with a $20 million+ annual budget, handling over 30,000 transactions a year. We are a charitable foundation providing remote online schooling for over 2,000 B.C. learners in kindergarten through grade 12.

Full-time work is available immediately to July 31, 2021. We are looking for one contractor. 

We’d love to hear from you if you are someone who:

  • Works well online from your own work space (home) using your own computer and internet connection.

  • Excels at month end reporting, credit card administration, budgeting and financial analysis.

  • Navigates changing platforms and/or processes with ease.

  • Works comfortably in a team focused on re-engineering systems and processes to facilitate internal controls and reporting.

Work Environment

We operate during Pacific Time zone business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.

You set your own hours of work, between the business hours noted above. You also need to be available for occasional online meetings during these same hours. Meetings are scheduled in advance. 

Timelines

Contract start date: Immediate.

Contract end date:  July 31, 2021 with opportunity for renewal.

Contract Value:  $5,000 - $6,000 per month, depending upon experience and qualifications.

Contract Details

Oversight

You will work at the direction of the Director of Finance, in the Finance team and in close collaboration with other team members.

Services required

  • Preparing monthly and annual budgets and projections.

  • Reconciling budgets and developing financial reports.

  • Data mining and new report development.

  • Designing and setting up financial reports and dashboards.

  • Planning, documenting, and implementing best practices for accounting, reporting, and internal controls.

  • Optimizing use of NetSuite ERP system for performance measurement, internal controls, and reporting purposes.

  • Spreadsheets: presentation, workbook use, dynamic spreadsheets, Google Sheets, Google Docs, pivot tables, reference functions, hotkeys, logic functions, and raw data manipulation tools.

Experience, Credentials & Qualifications

  • Certified Professional Account (CPA) designation (or in process), or equivalent combination of skills, knowledge and experience.

  • Post-secondary credential in business or equivalent combination of skills, knowledge and experience.

  • Demonstrated understanding of GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations.

  • Demonstrated experience using cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, preferably NetSuite ERP.

  • Demonstrated experience using Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, and Sheets). 

Mandatory Requirements

  • English language proficiency.

  • Legally able to work in Canada.

  • If you are offered and accept this contract opportunity, you will need to:

    • Undergo a Criminal Record Check at your own expense (approximately $28).

    • Take the SelfDesign online privacy and security fundamentals courses (approximately 1 hour per course).
