The Role

Are you a CPA designated individual with a deep understanding of the CPA Professional Education Program and Practical Experience Requirements?

Reporting to the Director of External Relations, the Employer Relations Specialist will use their experience and knowledge of the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) to develop and lead initiatives that strengthen CPA Alberta’s relationships with Alberta employers and that support their Pre-approved Program Route (PPR) and Experience Verification Route (EVR) candidates on-staff. The Specialist is the primary point of contact for all technical and competency-related inquiries from employers and their CPA candidates regarding CPA PEP and will provide them with specialized expertise during initiatives and at events. The Specialist also serves as a liaison between the profession and employer.

Please note this is a 12-month contract position to cover a maternity leave.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop resources, information, and profession updates for employers to support their EVR and PPR candidates.

  • Develop and implement initiatives to support candidates.

  • Research and build relationships with new stakeholders and partners.

  • Serve as an in-house expert resource by answering technical and competency-related inquiries from employers and candidates regarding CPA PEP; provide CPA expertise to employers and candidates during initiatives such as the Case Writing and Marking Parties, study groups, and roundtables.

  • Provide information and expertise to employers interested in becoming a PPR employer.

  • Review materials for technical accuracy and provide input on Employer Relations activities to help ensure optimum timing and audience relevance.

  • Liaise with CPA Alberta’s Practical Experience department and other relevant departments to ensure a continuum of support to both employers and candidates.

  • Develop informative content such as blog posts, brochures, articles, and website updates.

  • Moderate and facilitate discussions at roundtables and other events for candidates and employers.

  • Promote CPA education programs and provide information to internationally trained professionals and qualified individuals in the workforce as needed.

  • Support the planning and execution of events for employers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Marketing or Communications; or another related discipline.

  • Three to five years of experience in accounting, stakeholder relations, or related environment.

  • Proven understanding of the CPA profession and familiarity with the concepts and details of the CPA Professional Education Program and Practical Experience Requirements.A CPA designation is required. (Consideration will also be given to those who have successfully passed the CFE and are working towards fulfilling their practical experience requirements.)

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and implementation skills along with the ability to think strategically.

  • Experience in public speaking and planning and execution of events.

  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power Point and Excel.

Working Conditions

  • Some travel, including overnight, will be required.

  • Some work outside of regular hours including weekends will be required.
