Vice President & Chief Financial Officer

BC Children’s is the only hospital in the province devoted exclusively to the care of children. That means one million kids—including some of the sickest and most seriously injured—count on the hospital for specialized care they often can’t receive anywhere else. Every year, more than 93,000 patients visited the hospital—which not only includes its acute care centre, but also its research institute, mental health facility and rehabilitation centre.

Since 1982, the Foundation has been working to inspire people and communities to join their quest and raise the bar of children’s health care. In the 2019/20 fiscal year, more than 101,000 generous donors came together to support our cause which enabled over $55 million to be contributed to the hospital and research institute.  The generosity of donors helps change the lives of families today—from enabling new programs that deliver compassionate care tailored to the needs of children, to purchasing the latest innovations in equipment. Donor support is changing the lives of families tomorrow—helping shape what child health can become—by fueling research aimed at conquering and ultimately preventing childhood diseases.

With a compelling vision to ensure every child in BC is healthy and able to fulfill their hopes and dreams, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation is seeking a progressive senior leader in the role of Vice President & CFO. This key function will provide advice and counsel to the Board, CEO and Executive Team, to ensure effective decision making at both an operational and strategic level. Working in close partnership with the CEO, the CFO will have a clear mandate to ensure that the Foundation has the operational and financial discipline to manage the business of the Foundation in a manner that is considered best in class. This role provides innovative oversight for finance, information systems, donor services, investment management and risk management, while supporting various committees of the Board.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and purpose-driven CFO. An innovative thinker who looks beyond the pure numbers and sees opportunities while working in tandem with the CEO and Executive Team in articulating a path forward. With an understanding of the financial issues facing an organization with hundreds of millions in investments, large corporate and high net-worth donors, and complex interactions with the government and health leaders, the chosen candidate will be excellent at managing competing priorities and understanding the nuances inherent within a complex, not for profit entity. The incumbent will bring 10+ years of senior financial leadership, along with a CPA designation and a proven track record of effectively working with diverse groups toward a shared vision and purpose.
