Director of Finance

Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) represents the collective Inuvialuit interests in dealings with governments and the world at large and was formed upon signing of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), a land claim settlement. IRC's goal is to continually improve the economic, social and cultural well-being of the Inuvialuit through implementation of the IFA and by all other available means. The head office for IRC is located in Inuvik where it employs over 180 employees.

The growth and increasing complexity of the enterprise, which includes subsidiaries that operate businesses, hold petroleum rights, manage land rights/activities and oversee a significant investment portfolio, has resulted in the need for additional financial management expertise to support the group. A new Inuvik-based position has been created for a Director of Finance who reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the financial reporting, treasury, internal controls, and tax planning for the group. The Director will be a technical expert who may wish to build out a small team or continue to work alongside the Senior Manager of Accounting who manages a current team of about 14 in accounting and payroll.

As the ideal candidate, you bring a track record of success over at least five years of financial management experience in a large and/or complex organization preferably in a dynamic, growing family-owned or privately-owned corporation with parallels to IRC. A Chartered Professional Accountant, ideally with a degree in Business Administration or similar discipline and/or a specialization in taxation, you have expertise in financial accounting, treasury, internal controls, financial planning and analysis, cash flow analysis, risk management, and/or timely financial and management reporting. Your strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize work effectively and excellent communication skills will ensure your success in this role.

This is a compelling opportunity for a technical financial management expert who loves spreadsheets more than managing others and welcomes working with and supporting one of Canada’s most successful and progressive Indigenous organizations.
