Financial Reporting Analyst, Corporate Accounting

APS is recruiting for a temporary Financial Reporting Analyst, Corporate Accounting.

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, this individual provides various financial reporting deliverables to internal and external parties including APS leadership, clients and shareholder.  The Financial Reporting Analyst performs a key role in providing accurately and timely financial accounting and reporting for APS and is responsible for select corporate and pension plan accounting functions on behalf of some of our clients.

This individual is also responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including disclosure requirements
  • Preparation of monthly financial reports, variance analysis and forecast
  • Monthly financial statement close process (including the processing of journal entries and account reconciliations);
  • Intercompany and related party reconciliations;
  • Position papers for accounting or tax issues as needed;
  • Application of cost recovery methodology;
  • Project accounting and control;
  • Contract monitoring and commitments reporting;
  • Support for internal and external audits;
  • Providing financial expertise to management team and others within the Corporation as needed

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma (or equivalent) in business, finance, or accounting
  • CPA professional accounting designation
  • Minimum three years, post designation, directly related and progressive accounting experience.
  • Financial reporting and research experience is required.
  • Experience with an ERP system and full cycle accounting would be an asset.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of financial accounting and management accounting;
  • Solid working knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards and/or International Financial Reporting Standards;
  • Knowledge of pension terms and procedures is an asset; and
  • Knowledge of electronic general ledger applications, ERP systems, ancillary query and reporting applications is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze results and reports, problem solve, and perform reconciliations;
  • Strong computer skills, including mechanized general ledger applications, Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal communication for presentations to executives, managers, and staff;
  • Organizational and time management skills are necessary; and
  • Attention to detail and focus on delivery and deadlines.
  • Can frequently transition between working independently and supporting team initiatives;
  • Effectively deals with uncertainty, and have a bias towards action;
  • Understands data models, how they are structured and how to use the data model to generate analytical and reporting data;
  • Able to work in a complex environment with competing demands and deadlines; and
  • Explains complex financial concepts to non-financial staff with ease and clarity.
