Financial Project Analyst

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Financial Project Analyst provides analysis that assists the Project team to successfully deliver projects. The Financial Project Analyst is responsible for all cost reporting and forecasts of projects, preparation and presentation of the 5-year capital plan, annual capital budget and quarterly forecast updates of the capital plan. The Financial Project Analyst completes the annual close out of completed capital projects and setup of capital projects in the financial system.  Completes daily and monthly accounting entries and prepares monthly capital reports ensuring the accuracy of project costs.

In a team based organizational and management structure, under the direction of the CFO, this position:

  • Is responsible for all cost reporting and forecasts of projects, preparation and presentation of the 5-year capital plan, annual capital budget and quarterly forecast updates of the capital plan for the Capital Governance Committee, Senior Leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Supports the Manager Portfolio Planning & Controls in the annual capital planning and budgeting process. Coordinates regional and departmental submissions to the annual capital plan for timeliness and consistency and for the quality of the expenditure justification, providing advice and assistance to directors and managers as required
  • Ensures capital projects are set up with the appropriate budget and other information and ready for use in the accounting system as required by the annual capital budget.
  • Produces the monthly capital report
  • Manages the annual close out of completed capital jobs through out the year to ensure annual audit deadlines are met
  • Conducts special audits to reconcile or assess individual project accounts and prepares materials to the Capital Governance Committee, Senior Leadership and Board of Directors
  • Analyses and prepares information required for regular Statistics Canada reporting and other Government reporting requirements
  • Assists in the planning and completion of the Corporation’s year end external audit by preparing year-end working papers on capital projects
  • Provide training to and receive training from co-workers, as well as perform other responsibilities in applicable areas within work unit as assigned by the Manager
  • All other duties as requested or required

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Business Administration or Accounting diploma with a minimum of two years experience working in a financial reporting environment. Having a technical diploma, or being enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP), with two years experience in a financial reporting environment would also be considered. 
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with Excel is required.
  • Experience or familiarity with a project management environment would be an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in financial planning procedures to provide sound advice and recommendations regarding the development, implementation and resolution of capital plans would be an asset
