Volunteer Treasurer

Authority and Responsibility: The Board of Directors is the legal authority for the Alexandra Centre Society (ACS). As a member of the Board, the Director is in a position of trust for the community and is responsible for the effective governance of the organization. The Director keeps current on matters affecting the ACS and participates in the Board’s deliberations and decision in matters of policy, finance, programs, personnel, and advocacy. The Director must assist in developing and maintaining positive relations among the Board, committees, and community to enhance the ACS’ mission and vision. 

Requirements of the Treasurer include: 

  1. Commitment to the work of the organization. 
  2. Willingness to serve on committees and attend committee meetings. 
  3. Attendance at monthly Board meetings, committee meetings when needed, and Annual General Meetings. 
  4. Support of, and participation in, extraordinary events and fundraising activities. 
  5. Member in good standing of the ACS. 
  6. Knowledge and skills around finance and money management.  
  7. Must live or work in Inglewood, Ramsay, East Village or Beltline 

The Treasurer’s duties: 

  1. Gives regular reports to the board on the financial state of the ACS. 
  2. Acts as signing officer for cheques and other documents. 
  3. Collaborates with ACS staff to prepare and present the annual budget to the board for members' approval. 
  4. Ensures development and board review of financial policies and procedures. 
  5. Assures that reports accurately reflect the operating results and financial condition of the ACS.  
  6. Assists in the appointment of independent auditors, subject to approval by members.  
  7. Performs other duties prescribed by the Board or Chair. 
  8. The Treasurer shall supervise:  
  9. The receipt of all monies paid to the ACS and ensures the deposit of the monies in whatever financial institution, (provided the institution carries CDIC deposit insurance) that the Board may order. 
  10. Maintenance of records, of the funds and investments, of the ACS and maintain such records as may be ordered by the Board. 
  11. The preparation for submission, to the Annual General Meeting, of the financial position of the ACS, as duly audited, and submit a copy of these statements to the Secretary for the records of the ACS.
