Director of Finance and Administrative Services

Our client is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, collaborative individual with excellent knowledge & understanding of the not for profit industry. Under the direction and guidance of the Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Administrative Services will be responsible for all finance, administration and information technology (IT) functions in the organization.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team and provide overall agency leadership;
  • Ensure compliance with not-for-profit accounting standards and CRA;
  • Develop annual program operating budgets totaling $10M in addition to budgets for grant applications;
  • Prepare monthly financial statements with comparison analysis against project forecasts, estimates and budgets in coordination with the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board;
  • Prepare financial reports for stakeholders, ensuring that all financial reporting requirements are met;
  • Coordinate and prepare necessary working papers for annual audit and any program audits/reviews that are required with external auditors;
  • Identify and monitor financial and IT risks; design and implement effective risk mitigation strategies;
  • Maintain overall responsibility for the strategic allocation and management of human resources in the Finance, Administrative and IT departments;
  • Maintain strong customer service standards for the departments; and
  • Build and manage a positive working relationships with external and internal stakeholders.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

  • Financial Accounting designation required (CPA);
  • Minimum of 5-7 years in a leadership role, ideally in the non-profit sector;
  • Strong background in all areas of financial operations with at least 5 years of direct experience in external audit, financial reporting and managing the administration of financial and accounting systems of internal controls within a non-profit environment;
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, decision making, problem solving and planning skills;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment;
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail and excellent customer service;
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, think strategically and lead teams that execute functions outside specific area of expertise;
  • Proficiency in developing and adapting processes to improve efficiency and for quality assurance;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including board of directors, senior management, clients and external stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in learning and navigating a new accounting software;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with emphasis on Excel;

Other Details: 35 hour work week 8:30-4pm, flexibility to work from home up to 2days/week.
