The role of Controller is critically important to Connecting Care, with many opportunities available to the right candidate. The ideal candidate is a well-versed technical accountant and leader, excited by growth, change, and developing a team. Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Finance, the Controller is a key member of the Senior Leadership team. This role is based out of our Head Office in Edmonton.

As a member of our team, your success will be defined by the following key factors and proficiencies:

  • Acting as a leader, mentor, and champion for the accounting team through effective recruitment, and ongoing coaching, counseling, and appraising
  • Ensuring compliance to ASPE and IFRS standards and providing timely and accurate financial reporting to external stakeholders, on a stand-alone and consolidated basis
  • Working as a trusted advisor to the Operations team, by providing timely financial statements and KPI information, working in conjunction with the Senior Financial Analyst
  • Ensuring Owner and Board expectations are met by preparing budgets and recommending plans
  • Achieving budget objectives by working with the Operations team to schedule expenditures, analyzing variances, and recommending corrective actions
  • Limiting risk on cash by closely managing cash flow and cash flow projections
  • Guiding financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
  • Protecting assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls
  • Monitoring and confirming financial condition by organizing audits, preparing income tax filings, and acting as key liaison with external auditors
  • Representing the organization in a professional manner by managing requests and acting as key liaison with bankers and various regulatory agencies
  • Preparing special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Protecting financial information and plans with appropriate confidentiality
  • Focusing on the future by assessing accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementation of new processes
  • Providing services in a manner that demonstrates the principles of our Mission, Vision, and Values

You bring:

  • Ten + years’ related experience, ideally in a similar industry
  • A CPA designation
  • Excellent understanding of ASPE and IFRS reporting
  • Corporate income tax filing knowledge is an asset
  • Proven team leadership and mentorship
  • MS Office suite experience including excellent Excel skills (Yardi experience is also preferred)
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • A team player attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A friendly demeanor with a sense of humour and the utmost respect for all persons
