Corporate Controller

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and working closely with other leaders and colleagues across the Emera group of companies, the Corporate Controller will lead Emera’s Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting team, managing a broad scope of functional areas including internal and external financial reporting, internal control compliance, complex accounting policy oversight, transformational initiatives and other accountabilities.  You will help to create world class solutions that will positively position the company for decades to come and take pride in making good systems and processes even better. You will contribute good ideas and reliable data to better inform decision-making and strategy setting, work collaboratively with your team and colleagues, actively lead team building, foster continuous improvement and learning through coaching, mentoring, encouraging input and actively addressing concerns.  You will deliver exceptional service to customers, set clear goals for the department, and seek opportunities to build strategic partnerships while safeguarding the company’s assets and financial stability.

As the ideal candidate, you are a high functioning financial leader who possesses excellent organizational and people leadership skills, as well as a track record of successful strategic oversight. You have a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Administration (Masters preferred), a professional accounting designation (CPA), and at least 7 years’ experience at a senior management level, ideally within a large, publicly-traded multijurisdictional organization. You consistently look for process improvements and efficiencies and develop strategies for improving organizational effectiveness by cultivating innovation and change to ensure the business continually evolves. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to build seamless working relationships across the organization; strong detail orientation; excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills; highly proficient at preparing disclosure and reporting documentation; results oriented with the ability to prioritize and deliver on key initiatives with an appropriate sense of urgency.  You have a strong interest in overall business operations, and you are equally comfortable and effective working both at a strategic and a tactical level. 

You are an exceptional people leader with a demonstrated ability to create and promote a climate of pride, commitment and participation among the Corporate Accounting, Financial Reporting and Affiliate Finance groups. Experience in related roles with regulated utilities that report under US GAAP would be considered an asset.
