Junior Accountant

Position:          Junior Accountant                  

Key position functions:

  • Process monthly inter-company and general ledger reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and journal entries for holding and investment companies
  • Assist with the preparation of audit documents/working papers
  • Responsible for HSBC credit cards:
    • Process payments timely
    • Coordinate receipt of approved statements with backup from branches
    • Contact Branch Managers for any missing backup
    • Code and process vouchers once approved statements are received
  • Assist with month end financial statements package
  • Assist to Accounts Payable as required
  • Provide support to the annual budget process
  • Maintain accounting controls by following policies and procedures; comply with federal and provincial legal requirements
  • Support month-end and year-end close process across multiple locations
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and year end working paper binder
  • Provide technical accounting support and interpretation 
  • Prepare variety of ad hoc reports for management to assist in decision making 
  • Perform other related duties as necessary

Preferred candidates will possess a combination of the following:

  • Possess an Accounting, Finance, or equivalent college or university degree with preference given to those planning to enroll in a professional accounting designation program
  • Minimum 1-2 years of general accounting experience
  • In-depth understanding of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Familiarity with processing reconciliations for various accounts
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting would be beneficial
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP and budgeting software such as SAGE 500 or Xero would be an asset
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Proven problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Deadline oriented with a strong attention to detail
  • Aptitude for numbers and strong quantitative skills
  • Able to work effectively independently and in a team environment
