Senior Accountant

Position:                      Senior Accountant

Key position functions:

  • Responsible for administration and maintenance of all financial systems and records including the effective communication of financial results to Senior Management of the company
  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidation, and entering transactions
  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information
  • Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts; preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries
  • Summarizes financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements
  • Completes external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts; provides information for auditors
  • Prepares and reviews in a timely fashion of monthly information reporting package as well as year-end external audit package
  • Responsible for all accounting functions including:
      • Reviews and approvals of payments to suppliers and others
      • Maintenance of accounting records and general ledger
      • Job cost data collection and reporting
  • Responsible for all financial government regulatory reporting (except payroll)
  • Prepares of corporate income tax returns
  • Assists and works with other departments to resolve any accounting and financial aspects of problems which they may be encountering
  • Investigates and maintains inventory quantities and costing
  • Recommends and implements, if authorized, policies and procedure to improve the accounting systems information flow and practices
  • Provides constructive business advice to improve the efficient and profitability of the company and its management information systems
  • Carries out miscellaneous functions as prescribed by the Assistant Controller

Preferred candidates will possess a combination of the following:

  • Professional Accounting Designation (CMA, CGA, CA required)
  • 5 - 7 years accounting experience in management of financial systems and budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, auditing, taxation and providing financial advice
  • Strong computer knowledge using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with ERP and budgeting software such as SAP would be an asset
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting would be beneficial
  • Deadline oriented with attention to detail
  • Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational and time management skills while maintaining confidentiality
  • Proven problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
