Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC) is the only generator and distributor of electrical energy in Nunavut, providing safe, reliable and efficient electricity and plans long term affordable energy for Nunavummiut. 

Across breathtaking landscapes and majestic surroundings this essential service is delivered to approximately 15,000 electrical customers across Nunavut through the operation of 25 stand-alone diesel power plants in 25 communities. A safety first organization, operating with transparency, accountability and integrity this vision is attained in concert with an empowered, accountable and inclusive workforce/through the hard work and dedication of QEC employees.

QEC also provides mechanical, electrical and line maintenance from three regional centers: Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet and Cambridge Bay. The head office located in Baker Lake and corporate offices in Iqaluit and 200 employees across the territory.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer is responsible for delivering business results through the development and deployment of strategy in the areas of budget and accounting, financial management, treasury and investments, and knowledge management. This includes establishing long-range goals, strategies, policies and procedures, budget oversight and overall corporate protocols to maintain business relations and responsibilities. The CFO will advise and present financial statements and other related reports to the Board on a regular basis with respect to the financial affairs of the Corporation and to provide information regarding the achievement and status of finance programs and strategies. The successful candidate will bring together expertise in strategic and financial leadership, a collaborative approach, and the ability and desire to develop and mentor a team of finance and accounting professionals to achieve the goals of the company.

The ideal candidate is a proven business leader able to leverage strong financial expertise and broader business acumen to collaborate, contribute to and shape the organizations continued growth and success. Comfortable and effective working both at a strategic and a tactical level, you hold a professional designation as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), post-secondary education in finance or accounting combined with senior financial leadership experience. Experience in the utility industry or regulated sector would be considered an asset. You have a successful track record and expertise in identifying and driving value in an organization, as well as a reputation for being a trusted business advisor who fosters change, brings out the best in your team, leads by example and shapes a fair and respectful workplace. Knowledge of Nunavut, the land, language and culture and/or with the ability to communicate in Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun and/or French would be considered assets in the successful candidate.

This position offers a salary band of $169,903 - $212,355. In addition, the successful applicant will receive a northern living allowance, comprehensive benefits package, a defined benefit pension program and subsidized housing.

La Société d’énergie Qulliq (SÉQ) est le seul producteur et distributeur d’énergie électrique au Nunavut qui offre un approvisionnement en électricité sûr, fiable et efficace et qui planifie pour conserver l’énergie abordable à long terme pour les Nunavummiut.

Au sein d’un cadre majestueux et de paysages époustouflants, ce service essentiel est assuré à environ 15 000 clients du réseau électrique sur l’ensemble du Nunavut grâce à l’exploitation de 25 centrales électriques alimentées au diesel dans 25 collectivités. Son siège social se situe à Baker Lake, ses bureaux administratifs à Iqaluit, et la SÉQ compte 200 employés et employées dans l’ensemble du territoire.

Relevant du directeur général ou de la directrice générale, le directeur ou la directrice des services financiers est responsable d’atteindre les résultats commerciaux par l’élaboration et la mise en œuvre de stratégies en matière de budget, de comptabilité, de gestion financière, de trésorerie et d’investissements et de gestion des connaissances. Ceci comprend : établir des objectifs, des stratégies, des politiques et des procédures à long terme; superviser le budget et les protocoles globaux de la société afin de maintenir les relations et les responsabilités commerciales. La personne titulaire du poste présentera des conseils et des états financiers et tous les rapports connexes au conseil d’administration sur une base régulière en ce qui concerne les activités financières de la société et pour fournir des renseignements sur le progrès et à la réussite des stratégies et programmes financiers. Le candidat retenu possédera une expertise dans le leadership stratégique et financier, adoptera une approche collaborative et aura la capacité et le désir de former une équipe de professionnels en finances et en comptabilité et de leur servir de mentor afin d’atteindre les objectifs de l’entreprise.

Le candidat idéal est un gestionnaire chevronné, en mesure de tirer profit de son expertise financière solide et de son sens aigu des affaires pour façonner la société et contribuer et collaborer à sa croissance et à son succès. La personne titulaire du poste est capable de travailler efficacement, tant sur le plan stratégique que tactique, détient le titre professionnel de comptable professionnel agréé (CPA) et un diplôme d’études postsecondaires en finances ou en comptabilité, combiné à une expérience de haute direction en finances. Une expérience dans le secteur des services publics ou une industrie réglementée est un atout. Le candidat idéal possède une expertise et a fait ses preuves dans l’identification et l’amplification des valeurs d’une organisation, ainsi qu’une réputation à titre de conseiller en affaires de confiance qui encourage le changement, inspire le meilleur de son équipe, dirige par l’exemple et façonne un milieu de travail équitable et respectueux. Une connaissance du territoire, des langues et de la culture du Nunavut et la capacité à communiquer en inuktitut, en inuinnaqtun ou en français sont considérées comme des atouts chez le candidat idéal.
