Calgary Housing Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the City of Calgary. The Leader, Financial Strategy, Risk and Treasury, will be an instrumental leader and change champion to help us reach our ambitious vision to be the best – for our residents, our employees, and our city. Primary duties include:

  • Provide complex long-range financial forecasting, strategic financial advice, risk management, investing, funding and lending management. Oversee the timely and accurate settlement of payables and receivables.

  • Enable internal divisions through the provision of robust and sophisticated financial analysis and modeling.

  • Liaise with external funders and lenders from the Government of Alberta (GoA), City of Calgary (CoC) and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

  • Lead financial modelling and long-term forecasting to enable a portfolio management approach to property and asset management. Lead financial planning with regards to various funding sources as well as the establishment and management of reserves.

  • Provide strategic recommendations to the Calgary Housing Company’s (CHC’s) executive leaders and provide financial planning, funding, and financing in collaboration with the portfolio management division and other divisions at CHC.

  • Provide accountability for CHC’s cash flow management, banking and treasury functions.

  • Lead investment policy updates as well as investment reporting to CHC’s Board of Directors, CHC’s Audit and Risk Management (ARM) Committee and the executive leadership team.

  • Lead CHC’s Integrated Risk Management (IRM) process and related reporting to CHC’s Board of Directors and ARM Committee with the goal of continuously maturing the risk assessment model.

  • Liaise with funding and lending partners to support CHC’s financial strategy.

  • Oversee the preparation of reconciliations, journal entries and financial statements related to cash, accounts receivable and payable.

  • Manage the development and performance of direct and indirect reports in the Financial Strategy section. 

Qualifications

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related discipline supplemented by a professional designation such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and at least 8 years of progressive financial and leadership experience is required.

  • Success in this position requires highly developed competency in financial management, leading and developing a strong team, management capability and strategic thinking.

  • You have the ability to successfully manage resources and make appropriate decisions to achieve results aligned with business goals and customer service.

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
