A typical day for the Manager, Client Payments and Taxation

  • Manage recurring weekly and monthly pension plan payment processes in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Respond immediately and problem-solve unusual issues to assure pay run is accurate and timely
  • Liaise with other business areas and communicate issues and updates effectively
  • Manage and analyze large volumes of data to effectively and efficiently identify risk
  • Approve updates to pensioner and member files
  • Perform audit and sample testing of calculations from the pension benefits administration system
  • Manage external tax reporting processes including tax slips and tax filings for accuracy and compliance with CRA timelines
  • Liaise with external auditors, external legal and taxation resources
  • Provide subject matter expertise on special projects and to other business areas
  • Manage, mentor, develop, and motivate a team of finance professionals

What you bring

  • University degree with 5+ years of finance and/or payroll experience
  • Designations in one or more of the following:
    • Professional accounting designation (CPA/CA/CGA/CMA)
    • Payroll designation (PCP or CPM)
  • Management experience with 2+ years in leading teams
  • Canadian personal or corporate tax experience; In-Depth Tax Program[CK1]  is desirable
  • Experience in managing and leading continuous process improvement and change
  • Strong time management, organizational and leadership skills
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty, with a focus on being results-oriented
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with competing demands and deadlines[CK2] 
  • Experience working in a pension or benefit environment is desirable
