Based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a key role in the financial and commercial stewardship of all Crosbie business units, including Crosbie member companies. Specific responsibilities include oversight of financial planning and reporting, budgeting and forecasting, investment performance monitoring, corporate finance, performance management, contracts and stakeholder management, internal controls, treasury and taxation. Additional responsibilities include financial leadership and support of mergers and acquisitions and related activities. The CFO is responsible for the ongoing development and oversight of the financial processes and internal controls required to keep pace with the demands of a large and growing business and all associated regulatory and compliance requirements. The incumbent has specific responsibility for oversight of commercial aspects of the business, ensuring Crosbie’s corporate interests are protected by identifying any contractual risks. The CFO develops and maintains strong working relationships with external stakeholders such as financial institutions, auditing firms, insurance brokers and legal advisors. A hands-on business and financial expert, the CFO will ensure the Finance and Commercial organization has the right structure, the right people, and the functional capabilities to achieve strategic growth plans while safeguarding the company’s assets and financial stability. Working collaboratively with the Executive Team, the incumbent consistently provides reliable financial advice, accurate analysis and good judgment while making sound recommendations, upon which significant business decisions can be made.
The ideal candidate has a post-secondary education in finance or accounting and their CPA designation is supplemented with significant (10+ years) financial leadership experience, preferably within a growing and entrepreneurial organization. They are a hands-on leader and a successful financial executive, known for fostering organizational growth and development. Complementing their expertise in identifying and driving value, the CFO has a reputation for being a trusted business advisor who fosters strategic organizational improvement and success. The successful incumbent has the ability to convey financial analytics in a clear and concise manner and is highly capable of leading complex negotiations. They possess a strong interest in overall business operations and are a big-picture thinker who is comfortable and effective working both at a strategic and a tactical level. Also desired is experience with merger and acquisition related activities and experience with due diligence and business valuation, joint ventures, and drafting letters of intent. Experience working within an industrial environment, including marine, oil and gas, and/or construction industries is an asset.
